With a collection of state-of-the-art studios in Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Paris and London, Melanie has earned a devoted following, as well as recognition across the beauty industry. In 2016, CHANEL Australia announced Melanie as their first official Skin Expert, followed by CHANEL USA in 2019. With her latest conquest of publishing the new beauty bible, The Modern Guide to Skin Health, there can only be big things on the horizon for this skincare expert.
We sat down with Melanie Grant to ask her ten.
The classic White King Envelope Pillowcase is the original and the best for me.
The classic White King Envelope Pillowcase is the original and the best for me. Along with the scrunchies and a sleep mask in black!
I think the secret is that there is no balance! I try my best just to be present wherever I am. When I'm home with my boys and my husband I try to limit my time on calls and emails. When I'm in Studio or office, I try to really focus my energy and attention on my clients and team. It can definitely feel like a balancing act at times but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Personally it would be having my two boys for sure. Professionally opening my first studio in Sydney.. and strangely seeing the cover of my new book that's due out in June - The Modern Guide to Skin Health - it didn't feel real! I've been lucky to have a few pinch me moments in my life and career
I’m my best at home! I love hosting dinner parties or bbqs and especially love just being at home with my husband Jason and our two boys. Sitting in the garden with a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening is my favourite or just pottering about in my nightie - bliss!
For me it’s always about my family. I want to be remembered as a good mother, wife and friend. Hopefully grandmother.. And as an innovator in my industry.. where my clients both look and feel great with the treatments and services we provide.
If I wasn't treating skin, I'd probably be working with interiors. I love design, there's something about planning the elements of a space - from lighting to tones, texture, artwork and furniture and then being able to move through and live within that really excites me!
Sun care! It's a non-negotiable as the final step in any skincare regime, each and every morning. You'd be surprised how many common skin concerns can be prevented just by being mindful of our sun exposure. It's the ultimate anti ageing product.
I’m a bit of a nomad and live across Sydney, London and spend lots of time in Paris and LA. So for Sydney either Margaret in Double Bay or Fratelli in Potts Point. London is Scotts in Mayfair or River Cafe.. or Ottelenghi on Pavillion Rd for an easy lunch. Paris - So many it’s hard.. Langosteria is a new favourite or Caviar Kaspia for a fun night. LA It’s Gigi’s for sure and Matsuhisha for the best sushi!
I always start the day with a hot water and a squeeze of lemon, followed by a strong coffee while I skim my inbox. I like going for a brisk morning walk with my dogs when I'm home and try to do pilates when I can squeeze it in.
So many things! Summer holidays with my two boys, the launch of my book and finally opening our London studio.
Düsseldorf-based Dr. Sturm started her career as a surgeon, developing treatments for her patients using their own proteins. In 2003, she applied the same principle to develop her famed face cream, Dr. Barbara Sturm MC1, where a patient’s blood is drawn, then spun into a custom-blended cream for each patient. She expanded from there, and in 2014, her non-toxic Molecular Cosmetics skincare range was born, taking the beauty world by storm. Since then she has had A-list celebrities flocking to her clinics and a cult following that continues to grow across the globe.
We sat down with Dr. Sturm to ask her ten.
I prioritize a good night’s sleep because it has a huge influence on inflammation, the immune system, hormones, weight gain, diabetes, brain function, the skin and more.
The Silver Sleep Mask is a favorite. I prioritize a good night’s sleep because it has a huge influence on inflammation, the immune system, hormones, weight gain, diabetes, brain function, the skin and more. I’m in bed by 9PM most evenings, and always take two of my GOOD NIGHT supplements to ensure I get a full and regenerative night’s rest.
I think you never stop learning about motherhood. You always fall into the same pattern of feeling guilt between work and children, and you always think you should do things differently, but that’s just part of being a working mother. My children and I have a very close bond and it’s so important to have my kids close to me. Charly, my oldest daughter works with me and it’s a great pleasure to me to see her grow and evolve in the business.
Professionally, I cried with joy in the shower after Net A Porter agreed to take on my Dr. Barbara Sturm skincare. That was my big break.
Spending time with my daughters is so important to recharge and I love to enjoy time with my family; we’ll cook together at home using lots of anti-inflammatory fresh ingredients, play board games and do puzzles, arts, and crafts. I have a Buddhist-like outlook to life; I keep a happy spirit and try not to worry about the past and the future – it’s important to live in the present. I always have a book close by from the Indian philosopher J. Krishnamurti called ‘Freedom From The Known’ and like to pick it up and start reading anywhere - it helps me to keep my feet on the ground.
I always want to promote a message of love, respect and healing and it’s essential to our wellness and mental wellbeing. And as a doctor, I am constantly working with leading scientists around the world to develop new ways to improve health and longevity on all levels – not just for the skin, but the body too.
My current job is my dream job. But if I wasn’t a doctor, I’d still be doing something creative. I love art, ceramics, interior design, collecting antiques and visiting markets like the Marche aux Puces in Paris, so I would love to do something involving these interests.
My FACE MASK is a must-have for me - I use it almost every morning and it’s truly my beauty secret when it comes to that extra boost of hydration and glow.
Prinzinger is a great Italian restaurant that I’ve been going to for many years in Düsseldorf. It does a delicious aubergine melanzane.
I love the mornings, I’m an early bird so I always get up early. If I get up before my kids, I try to watch the sunrise or be mindful and then fit in a quick workout, usually while I am on calls. I love to keep active - movement is essential for releasing inflammation-reducing hormones in the body. I’ll then cuddle my kids, put my FACE MASK on, have a coffee, go through my emails and get the day started.
I have so many exciting things coming up. I just launched a new Spa & Boutique on Madison Avenue and Mercer Street in New York, I have the very first, in-person STURM HAUS ANTI-INFLAMMATORY WORKSHOP taking place in London at the end of the month and I have some interesting new inventions coming out - new delivery methods for potent ingredients and new compounds, increasingly tailored products, and advanced procedures. We have lots of exciting things in store.
Dr. Gross, a New York City–based board-certified dermatologist and skin-cancer researcher, created one of the first at-home peel products based on his in-office peels, and the rest is history. Since then, Dr. Gross and his cofounder and wife, Carrie, have built a range of medical-grade products and tools that are just as beloved as the O.G. peel. So it's no surprise Dr. Dennis Gross constantly pops up in every celeb skin-care routine and best-seller list you come across.
We sat down with Dr. Gross to ask him ten.
I am really moved by the interactions I have with consumers. Skin is a deeply personal thing and can really effect your self-confidence...
My favorite product would have to be the pillowcases. My wife Carrie brought them home one day – the texture is really nice and almost has a cooling sensation.
It can be challenging – especially when you have a family of six with each of us running in opposite directions. Family dinners are a big thing in our household. Sunday evenings are reserved for family time, home cooked meals – with one rule: work conversations are off limits. It is much more difficult now that some of the kids are in college and out of state, but we make an effort to carve out time to connect as a family as best as we can.
I am really moved by the interactions I have with consumers. Skin is a deeply personal thing and can really effect your self-confidence. I will never forget one moment when I was visiting Mecca in Australia, I met with one client who told me that her acne was debilitating – she had been bullied in her teenage years and was still suffering from acne as an adult. She told me that she started using my products and it not only cleared her skin but also boosted her self-confidence. She told me that she was finally able to shed the negative comments from her teens and felt great about herself. It seems like such a small thing, but being able to make a difference feels really great.
At home, you can find me reading on the couch with our dogs – if it is in the evening, I usually have a glass of sake in hand. At home, I am relaxed and enjoy time to rejuvenate whether it is by getting a quick workout in or playing the drums.
I want to remembered for being a great husband, father, friend and trusted dermatologist. Of course, I would love for my products to continue to positively impact lives.
This is hard to imagine. I love creating and inventing – I would probably find some new innovation outside of dermatology. I love educating and mentoring too so there is a possibility that I could have wound up as a professor.
The Alpha Beta Daily Peels, hands down. They are a staple in my every day skincare routine.
There is a low key sushi restaurant with the freshest fish and great rolls. I go there with my fellow sushi lovers and have the best time. I usually go on the weekend so I can order the sake as I wish.
I wake up early and start a pot of coffee. I of course do my morning skincare routine – cleanse, peel, vitamin C serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. I am not a big breakfast person so will usually grab something to eat for an early lunch at the office. I’ll connect with Carrie about what our schedule is for the day and then I am off to the practice. I live close, so I walk to work. I really enjoy walking – I find it to be meditative. And in New York City, there is never a lack of people watching.
I am really excited for a new launch we have coming up in the fall. I can’t give away too much… but I can say that vitamin C is my favorite ingredient which is why I am so excited for this launch.
Carla spent the first 10 years of her working life as a fashion stylist before turning her attention to beauty writing. But the allure quickly wore off as she became alarmed by the synthetic substances and toxins contained in many commercial beauty products. She began writing about healthier, natural alternatives made from plants and organic foods and wrote her first book, Feeding Your Skin, published by Penguin Books.
By then she was a mother of two small children, who are now teenagers. When her daughter began to experience similar skin issues to the eczema and allergies she herself had experienced as a child, Carla put her family on a gut-healing protocol that included probiotic-rich, lacto-fermented wholefoods. Very quickly Carla noticed a profound difference in her daughter’s skin, as well as the improved wellbeing of the whole family.
When friends and family began asking why her skin looked so ‘glowy’, Carla realised the power of the gut-skin connection and the importance of beauty from the inside out. She began experimenting with lacto-fermenting skin-loving superfoods in her Bondi kitchen and that’s how GLOW—The Beauty Chef’s first inner beauty powder—was created.
The pioneer of the inner beauty category, The Beauty Chef now has a range of bio-fermented, probiotic-rich wholefood supplements and organic topical skincare products. Carla works on her unique formulas with a team of leading microbiologists, naturopaths and nutritionists, employing cutting-edge research to develop products that support gut health and glowing skin—beauty from the inside out.
...at heart, I am a naturalist, a creative and a nerd.
I do love the OG Slip Silk Pillowcase. It’s recommended by dermatologists as it is great for the skin!
Finding a perfect balance is hard, but I now know the things that help keep me grounded - time spent with family and friends, walking to organise my thoughts, and weekends away throughout the year to reinspire. When I’m feeling stressed or out of balance these are the things I know will help me realign. And of course looking after my gut health - your gut regulates everything, from your immune health, metabolic health, brain health and skin health, so a diet and lifestyle that suppprts the gut microbiome is essential on a daily basis.
Having my own manufacturing plant was always the dream, albeit as a ‘pie in the sky’ idea initially. From the earliest days of the business almost 13 years ago, I wanted to create our products in a place that belonged to The Beauty Chef. So, I suppose the biggest pinch me moment was opening our very own state-of-the-art, brand-owned, bio-fermentation plant in Sydney where we work with a team of leading microbiologists and scientists to formulate our products. To this date, it is one of my greatest career achievements, and something I am incredibly proud to have accomplished.
I love being at home and pottering. I love cooking, gardening, doing crosswords, reading and decorating. I also really enjoy spending time researching ingredients and reading nutritional papers on Google Scholar - at heart, I am a naturalist, a creative and a nerd.
I’d like to be remembered for being a person who was authentic, spoke their truth and created something that broke down barriers, educated and helped people. Also for being a good cook!
My mum was a fashion editor, so I grew up around fashion, beauty and interiors. I started working when I was 13 on weekends at a cafe and a hairdressing salon so I could buy my own clothes. I would go to a second-hand designer store and buy one-off pieces. One year I bought this beautiful Gaultier dress that had religious icons all over it - I wore it in summer with sandals and then in winter with a skivvy underneath and tights and boots. In my teens I started getting asked by people in the industry if I would style their shoots, so it was a job that felt very seamless and easy. That’s how I ended up working in magazines, as a fashion editor in my early career.
However, I also studied naturopathy in my twenties while working in magazines, but with a full-time job and two young children, I didn’t finish it. My passion for natural medicine has always been very strong and also passion for biomedicine. I have thought alot about being a biomedical/integrative practitioner.
It would have to be The Beauty Chef’s GLOW Inner Beauty Essential. It is a truly amazing product. We’ve already helped around 1 million guts and complexions with this product. It has been tried and tested since 2009. There has been so much research and love put into it over the last 13 years. It is now in its third iteration and is better than ever. I’d love to share with you how we make it, so you can see how much goes into its creation. First we create a bio fermented organic and biodynamic wholefood base (70% Aussie grown ingredients) using our exclusive Flora Culture(™) fermentation process. This natural, genius process supercharges the ingredients and helps make the nutrients more bioavailable. It also creates a broad spectrum probiotic as well as postbiotics. And then we supercharge it further by adding more vitamin C, zinc, pro-vitamin A (from natural beta-carotene sources), biotin and niacidamide (from sprouted quinoa), pomegranate peel extract (high in collagen protective ellagic acid) and our exclusive strain of probiotic Lactobacillus Rhamnosus Gut5y(™) which studies show have skin, gut and wellbeing benefits.
I take this every day and it is a game changer product.
Lox Stock & Barrel in Bondi is one of my regular go-to spots. I love their fresh salads for lunch and I have their chicken soup at least once a week!
Walking is a non-negotiable for me—it’s something that I like to do every day because it helps me start the day with a clear mind. I love walking along Bondi Beach at sunrise, which is quite close to my house, or through Centennial Park, which is a more meditative route. I describe walking as a natural filing system for my brain—it provides mental clarity, gives me energy and helps to set me up for the day.
I'm looking forward to summer here in Australia. My favourite morning routine on a warm day involves a walk with my dog, Wolfie, and a swim at Bondi Beach. There is something so invigorating about starting your day in the water and during the winter I am usually too chicken to jump in!
His finesse as a facial plastic surgeon has garnered him worldwide recognition; he has been interviewed by prestigious magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Allure about a myriad of cosmetic surgery topics, and he has even been featured on the Netflix series The Celebrity Plastic Surgeons of Beverly Hills and the hit show Dr. 90210. The world of journalism has also utilized his expertise during his visits as a correspondent for CBS News, Entertainment Tonight, and Discovery Health.
But, even if you aren’t a celebrity patient like Kate Upton or Kim Kardashian, you can expect the same abundance of care, concern, and devotion that Dr. Diamond would afford someone coming straight from Hollywood.
The pillowcase is my favorite and I use it every night.
The pillowcase is my favorite and I use it every night.
Wherever I am, I am all in. How you do anything is how you do everything, so if I’m at work, I’m 100% in. If I am at home, I am 100% Dad. I can’t get it right 100% of the time, but I do my very best to balance a hectic work schedule with my #1 priority, my family.
It’s so humbling to have a pinch-me moment, and I’ve had a few in my career so far. Taking care of my childhood idols will never get old. People I used to wait in line to buy concert tickets for are now waiting to see me. Hearing my name in a movie, The Stand In, was pretty high on the list. Taking care of a patient when their song is playing on my speaker, or their movie is on my TV, is always crazy to me, too.
I want to be remembered as someone who cares about beyond just the face in my chair. I hope my patients know I care about their faces, of course, but I also care about them as people, and their well-being. I hope I am remembered for making people not only look good, but feel good. I want to be remembered for being reliable and trustworthy and giving my absolute best to anything I am doing, professionally and personally.
At home, I am a fully engaged Dad. When I get home from work, I love to get my kids outside, physically active, and I love participating in the things they love to do. It has been the greatest pleasure of my life to watch them grow up and be such a big part of their childhoods. Time is going by too fast, and it makes me sad to think they will be out of the house soon. I have to cherish every moment.
If I wasn’t a Facial Plastic Surgeon, I’d be an Orthopedic Surgeon. Boring answer, I know.
My facial products I have been developing the last few years! I use them daily, and they are just about perfect. I swear by them, and I hope others will too once they are launched.
Matsuhisa – hands down. The Kobe Beef Sliders… I could eat those every day.
I wake up and have a cup of coffee. I work out daily. I meditate and do breathwork. Then, I start my work day – whether it is surgery or clinic.
I’m looking forward to getting out on the golf course this Friday. It is a great way for me to decompress and do something for myself. I’m looking forward to my family trip this summer and my eldest son starting high school and playing football in the Fall.
Honestly, I’m obsessed with the slip sleep masks. I bring it in my bag every time I travel.
Honestly, I’m obsessed with the slip sleep masks. I bring it in my bag every time I travel. It’s so helpful to catch some Z’s while on the go, and they’re so comfortable.
For me it’s meditation. I meditate every day and I do breathwork. It helps to ground me when I’m feeling anxious. It also helps me to align my thoughts and stay focused and organized.
Anytime I get to travel internationally is such a pinch me moment. As a kid I never got to travel to Europe, Asia, South America, or Africa. Since being a celebrity hair stylist, I’ve gone to almost every continent thanks to my amazing clients. There’s nothing better than traveling.
I just want to be known for being a genuine human. Someone who spread as much love as possible. A good storyteller. An entertainer. An artist. Someone who cared about everyone’s success. Someone who rooted for you.
My dream in life has always been to be an actor. I’ve always had a massive fear around it and the pandemic was my awakening. Without having time off during the pandemic, I think I would still be so dependent on everyone else’s success to be successful. Now I’m pursuing all of my passions at once and I’ve never felt happier.
A hair paste. My hair looks awful without product, and I always need some sort of texturizing paste for my hair.
I haven’t been in so long but I remember loving this restaurant in Downtown York, PA named The Left Bank. It’s the fanciest place in my hometown. I also love this place called The White Rose. It’s more casual but also delicious!
Bathroom. Drink water. Brush teeth. Shave or trim my facial hair. Shower. Most of my time is spent on skin care. It’s an obsession. A little bit of makeup. A generous amount of cologne. Get dressed. Feed and let out my dogs. Rush to work because I’m probably late.
Oh I’m bad at evening rituals. Typically involves taking out my contacts. Putting on mood lighting in my bedroom. Brushing my teeth and typically I just use a face wipe at night or I don’t even wash my face lol.
I’m excited for acting to fully pick up again. I really want to do a beautiful art film or short film. I’m also writing a screenplay so I’m excited to keep working on that. I’m also looking forward to traveling more personally and not just for work.

]]>When Co-Founders Victoria and Sarah envisioned what they wanted Victoria Beckham Beauty to be, they asked themselves - what would the most amazing luxury beauty brand look like in ten years? They concluded that the future of beauty would be super clean, perform at the highest luxury level, welcome everyone who loves beauty, help people fuel their lives inside and out, be sustainable, transparent, digital-first, cruelty-free, and created by women (naturally). This is the vision behind Victoria Beckham Beauty.
Developed through Victoria Beckham’s unique perspective, these are the products she felt were missing from her makeup bag — cleanly formulated, high performance beauty solutions for the modern individual who lives life on-the-move and to the fullest.
No wonder collaborating with VB Beauty has been a dream come true! Our limited edition VB Power Sleep Set is a 3-piece bedtime skin ritual featuring the VB Beauty 15ml Cell Rejuvenating Power Serum, 15ml Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer and our limited edition VB x slip® silk sleep mask in a signature horn pattern.
“Is there a more luxurious gift than a great night’s sleep—for mind, skin and soul? Our incredible Power Sleep Set will undoubtedly be loved by everyone on your list. And it’s portable so you can rest easy, wherever it is you’re hitting the pillow.” - VB x
MY RECIPE FOR GLOWING SKIN IS POWERFUL SKINCARE AND A GOOD NIGHT’S REST. I HAVE USED SLIP’S SILK PILLOWCASE FOR YEARS, AND NOW I CAN’T FALL ASLEEP WITHOUT MY VB SLIP SLEEP MASK. - VB x
Definitely the sleep masks and the pillowcases. I use those every day. I love the sleep mask so much that I even designed my own in our signature Victoria Beckham Beauty horn pattern!
I wake up and check my sleep ring to see how much sleep I’ve had the night before. I’ve become obsessed with hitting my targets. Then I quickly go through my messages. I know I shouldn’t start my day off on my phone, but with Fashion in London and Beauty based in New York, there is always someone to get back to. I answer anything that is urgent, the rest can wait. I wash my face and brush my teeth. Since I work out in the morning, I wait to apply my serum and moisturiser until afterwards. Then I put on my gym clothes and head downstairs to make Harper’s breakfast.
Oh wow, this is like choosing a favourite child. These days, it is my new Posh Gloss in the shade Poolside because it is ultra-glossy and smooths my lips like a balm. If I need a pick-me-up, I reach for this shade of Posh Gloss and it does the trick.
I don’t know, have I found a balance? I’m just trying my best. Any tips are welcome, if you have them pass them on.
The incredibly strong embrace from my community. I am having so much fun creating what they want, what they really really want.
